Water Service Line Repair for Boise Yards
Picture a 1970s home on the West Bench, one of 20,166 Boise houses built in that decade. It is the last week of October. The irrigation water went off for the season in the first week of the month, the sprinklers have been blown out, and yet one strip of the front lawn between the sidewalk and the porch is still green and soft underfoot. Inside, nothing is running, but the dial on the meter creeps anyway. The service line from the meter to the foundation is the original one, and it has had fifty winters of frost on top of it.
Boise averages 108 nights a year at or below freezing, with the first fall freeze arriving around October 17 and the first hard freeze near 28 F around October 29. January nights average 25.5 F, and on about 16 days a year the high never climbs above 32 F. The city building code sets the frost line at 24 inches below finished grade, which is why a water service line has to sit below that depth and why a shallow or shifted line is the one that fails in a cold snap.
Water line repair in Boise is permitted work. The City of Boise Building Division lists a water service inspection among its plumbing inspections, so a replaced line from the meter to the house is looked at before the trench is backfilled. Veolia Water Idaho reports about 1,458 miles of main in its system; the service line that branches off the main to your house is the one we repair.
Elevated locates the leak before anyone digs. Leak detection equipment narrows it to a few feet of yard, so a repair on the main line is one hole instead of a trench. When the service line is too far gone, we replace it from the meter box to the house. Written estimate first, free second opinion on any replacement quote.

SERVING BOISE AND THE TREASURE VALLEY
Many Boise yards carry two buried lines, the potable service from the Veolia meter and a separate pressure irrigation line that the city or an irrigation district turns on in spring and off in fall. A wet patch in July can be either one; in January it is nearly always the drinking water line. We sort that out before digging.
