Air Conditioning Repair and Replacement in Kuna

Picture a two-story home in Memory Ranch on one of the nine or so afternoons a year when the Boise Airport record tops 100 F. Twice since lunch the air conditioner has gone silent, and twice the owner has found the breaker for the outdoor unit tripped and reset it. The third time it trips, the house is already warm and the owner stops resetting it. A breaker that keeps opening on the hottest day of the year can mean a failing compressor, a seized fan motor or a wiring fault, and each is a different repair with a different price in writing.

Kuna summers are measured at the Boise Airport, where the July normal high is 92.7 F, roughly 55 days each year reach 90 F or more, and about 9 climb to 100 F. Cooling degree days run about 1,045 a year against 5,320 heating degree days, so an air conditioner here works a short, intense season, and the days it fails are the days it is needed most.

Installing or replacing an air conditioner or heat pump in Kuna requires a mechanical permit from the City of Kuna Building Department, whose mechanical permit application lists air conditioners, heat pumps and mini splits by name. Unpermitted installs draw a doubled permit fee.

With three quarters of Kuna's homes built in 2000 or later, many of the air conditioners in town are builder-installed units of about the same age, and a two-story home in one of those subdivisions often cools the ground floor well while the upstairs runs hot. Zoning, duct balancing and correct sizing matter as much as the condenser outside.
